ERCAN GÜLEN
Ercan Gülen was born in Istanbul in 1932. He graduated from the Painting Department of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in 1960. He went to New York in 1968. In the museums of Boston, Milwaukee, Chicago, Washington D.C., Baltimore, he watched world art from its originals. Between 1968-1976, he taught painting and wall graphics at various schools in the USA, and opened exhibitions. He returned to Turkey in 1976. Between 1987-1991, he taught art analysis at Bilkent University. He was the president of the United Painters Sculptors Association. He published an art newspaper. He took a group exhibition to Armenia in 1997, an exhibition of Turkish painters to Kazakhstan in 1998, and a group exhibition to Athens in 2000. Having opened 32 solo exhibitions, the artist participated in many group exhibitions. In addition, he was selected as the artist of the year in the field of printmaking at the 2007-2008 plastic art awards of the Ercan Gülen Art Institute. He passed away in Ankara in 2013. The works of the artist have been accepted to our museum by donation.
