Feridun Oral was born in 1961.He graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts in 1985. He participated in many exhibitions, biennials and competitions in Turkey and abroad.
His works were exhibited in the "Illustrators' Exhibition" in the years 1986, 1992, 1993 and 1995 at the Bologna Children's Books Fair held annually in Italy. These works of the artist were also included in the fair catalog. He was included in the "Runner Up" list at the biennial organized by UNESCO Noma-Concours in Japan in 1992 with his book Böğürtlen Cini ve Sarı Gaga.
He was deemed worthy of the Honor Award for his work entitled Düş Kedileri at the "European Illustrators" biennial in 2001, again held in Japan. His book, Kırmızı Elma, which was first published in 2008, was selected that year as the "Best Illustrated Children's Book of the Year" by IBBY Türkiye. The book, which was transferred to the ipad / ipod environment by WingedChariot Publishing in England, thus became the first Turkish children's book published on the internet in the world. His book called Pirinç Lapası ve Küçük Ejderha was selected as the "Best Illustrated Children's Book of the Year" (2012); his book Kırmızı Kanatlı Baykuş was selected as the "Best Illustrated Story Book of the Year" (2012) by the Children and Youth Publications Association (ÇGYD). The artist was nominated for the International Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2012 by IBBY Turkey and his book “Farklı ama Aynı” was selected as the best illustrated children's book of the year in 2015 by ÇGYD. The artist was awarded the Excellence Award by the Bologna Children's Books Fair, for being selected for the 2019 Bologna Illustrators Exhibition. Oral, who produced printmaking in the Istanbul Museum of Graphic Arts in 2013, besides being a writer and illustrator for children's books, participates in various exhibitions and art fairs in the field of plastic arts. Feridun Oral lives and works in Istanbul.
