Filiz Başaran was born in 1951 in Edremit, Balıkesir.In 1963 she decided to paint. She entered the State School of Applied Fine Arts in 1968. Besides painting, she also did zinc etching at school. She graduated from the Painting Department of the State School of Applied Fine Arts in 1972. In 1977, she worked at the Salzburg Summer Academy, Prof. Jose Cuiha Studio. In the same year, she started to work as an assistant at her school, which she was graduated from. She worked as an associate professor and professor in the Painting Department of Marmara University. Fine Arts Faculty (State School of Applied Fine Arts) for many years and contributed to education. She worked on printmaking at The Çamlıca House of Art in Çamlıca in 1987 and 1988 and within the Istanbul Museum of Graphic Arts in 2006, 2012 and 2013. Filiz Başaran gives importance to sensitivity and details in her works that put life and nature in the foreground. She continues her works in different techniques such as painting and original printmaking, and with different materials.
