HASAN PEKMEZCİ

He was born in 1945 in Konya. After primary school, he was educated at İvriz Teachers' School. Then, he graduated from Istanbul Capa Teachers' School Painting Seminar in 1965, where he was accepted with a painting exam, and started to work as a teacher in Siverek District of Urfa. In the same year, he entered Gazi Education Institute Painting Department. After graduating from here, he worked as a teacher at Arifiye Teachers' School and Çankırı Secondary School.

The works of the artist were selected in the State Painting and Sculpture Exhibition for the first time in 1969. In 1971, he opened his first solo exhibition at the Ankara State Fine Arts Gallery. In 1978, he was invited to Gazi Education Institute Painting Department as a teacher by the decision of the Teachers' Board. He established the serigraphy studio in this institution.

In 1987, he was appointed as a lecturer at Hacettepe University Fine Arts Faculty Painting Department to establish printmaking studios and to teach these courses. In 1989, he was selected for the International Chile Biennale. As one of the 100 artists deemed worthy of being exhibited by the international jury at the Osaka Triennial in 1991, where 7370 works were attended, he became the only Turkish artist to represent Turkey in this exhibition.

When he became associate professor in 1987 and professor in 1995, he received many important awards in his field. Hasan Pekmezci opened 55 solo exhibitions and took part in hundreds of group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad with his works consisting of oil paintings, original printmakings and etchings. With the tour group established in his name, he had the opportunity to examine more than 300 museums and art centers in various countries of the world for years. With this group, he created an opportunity for many art students, artists and art lovers to meet with international museums and the works of masters. The works of the artist have been accepted to our museum by donation.
