MÜRŞİDE İÇMELİ

Mürşide İçmeli was born in 1930 in Istanbul. İçmeli, a Turkish original printmaking and graphic artist, started her painting studies at the Istanbul Capa Girls' Primary Teachers School painting seminar in 1947. With the ending of the seminar at the end of the year, she continued her education in Bursa and Konya Primary Teachers School for Girls. She graduated from the Painting Department of Ankara Gazi Education Institute, as an art teacher in 1953, which she entered in 1950 with a talent exam. After teaching painting at Afyon High School for a while, she entered Ankara Gazi Education Institute as a graphic assistant in 1959. With a government scholarship, she went to Madrid in 1960 to research, analyze and specialize in original printmaking. She continued the etching studio of the Madrid Academy of Fine Arts and the lithography (stone printing) studios of the National School of Fine Arts. One year after returning home, she was sent to London in 1962, this time to be trained in graphic arts. She specialized in Illustration at the Graphic Arts Department of Central School Art and Design. When she returned home in 1965, she started to work as a graphic arts teacher in the Department of Painting at Gazi Education Institute. Mürşide İçmeli, who continued this duty until 1986, held her first solo exhibition in 1976. After receiving the title of Proficiency in Art, which is equivalent to a doctorate, in 1985, she started to work as a professor lecturer in the Graphics Department of Bilkent University Fine Arts Faculty in 1986. The artist, who received numerous awards and was also a member of the selection committee of state painting and sculpture exhibitions, retired in 1995 of her own request. After her retirement, she continued to work in her own private studio. Mürşide İçmeli passed away in Ankara in 2014.The works of the artist have been accepted to our museum by donation.
