NURULLAH BERK

Nurullah Berk was born in Istanbul in 1906. He completed his secondary education at Galatasaray Lisesi. In 1924 he worked at and graduated from the Hikmet Onat and Ibrahim Çallı Studios at the Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi. Between 1924-1928 he worked at the Ernest Laurent Studio of the Paris School of Fine Arts. Travelling to Paris for the second time in 1932, he worked first at the private academies of master painters such as Andre Lhote, then Fernard Leger for one year. In 1933 he participated in the founding of the D Grubu with five of his friends. In 1939 he joined the faculty of the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts teaching staff and continued his work there until 1968. In 1976 he worked on printmaking at Süleyman Saim Tekcan's studio in Kuyubaşı, Aralık Street. He is one of the first artists to work in this studio. He died in Istanbul in 1981.
